ALTINKUM PROPERTY FINDER
New Marina
Have you heard about it? It’s the talk of the town over here, the government decided they would give the go-ahead and allow Altinkum to build it’s much wanted marina and they don’t do it in halves - it’s going to be the biggest marina in Turkey. It is well under way and the construction company has announced that it is on schedule and the $52 million marina will be open to the public by the summer of 2009. The marina will cover an area of 287,000 m2. The marina will have a yacht club, heliport, a capacity for 623-berthed yachts and 600 yachts in dry dock, a yacht lift for 300 and 100 tonnes and a swimming pool. It will serve mainly yachts of 75-150 metres long. It will also have a shopping centre, supermarkets, yacht equipment shops, a fitness centre and sports facilities, banks, a petrol station, restaurants and a cultural centre. It is set to really put Altinkum on the tourist map!
Mortgages
Yes they are now available for us foreigners, the Akbank is the first bank to lend to its overseas fan club and permit us to buy even bigger and better should we so wish! We are permitted to borrow 50% of the value of the property, so if you see your dream property for 40,000 you will now have the option of borrowing half of that and paying it back slowly.
Ferries
It has been announced that the ferry service from Altinkum to the Greek Islands will be in operation next summer. The company that won tender is Yesil Marmaris. For the moment there has been no disclosure about the cost of traveling but at least we will not have to endure the road trip to Bodrum or Kusadasi in order to visit our Greek neighbors on Samos and Kos Island.
Golf
There is a lot (a lot) of talk about an 18 hole golf course between Akbuk and Altinkum, we will have more information about this in the very near future, keep your fingers crossed but its looking pretty positive!!
Altinkum/Didim Chamber of Commerce
Didim Chamber of Commerce has voted to introduce new legislation as a reaction to the massive numbers of new estate agencies that have followed property-hunters to Altinkum in droves. Concern has been raised about the need for some kind of control over the agents, many of whom have no formal training, experience or qualifications in the industry.
This new legislation requires all agencies to have a license to trade as estate agents, and to complete a certification course which covers public relations, deeds procedure, marketing and basic laws.
The Certification programme started on Monday 23rd May 2005 and 120 of Altinkum’s estimated 600 agencies attended. All agencies who do not complete the programme and qualify will be required to cease trading.
This new legislation is extremely good news for prospective property buyers who benefit from the reassurance of knowing they are dealing with a licensed member of Didim Chamber of Commerce.
