We decided what if we created a website where people could contact us specifying what they wanted we would find it for them? We know what its like to be the “buyers” and to feel vulnerable and insecure about buying in a foreign country. We know the pitfalls and most importantly we know the Estate Agents that look after and value their customers and offer excellent after sales service (this is crucial as we realised after buying!).
We bought our own property in Altinkum last February with our “Eyes Wide Shut”. We dealt with four different agents before settling on the one. And even then we were nervous buyers.
A little advice about the market….
Foreigners have been permitted to buy officially since 2002 and since then the property market has been booming! But like everything in life there are pitfalls to beware of!
We spoke to a lot of people before deciding to buy but it seemed that no two people had bought through the same real estate agency. Why could we not find more than two people who had bought with the same agency? Because there are approximately a 1000 estate agencies in Altinkum and a lot are not even licensed to sell property!
There are some excellent agents, then there are some bad and then there are the very bad! Altinkum has suffered its fair share of bad press in the last few months thanks to the unscrupulous agents in town but fear not for every one dishonest agent there are two honest ones.
Since we have been here we have been told the success stories and the horror stories.
Unfortunately restrictions for setting up a legitimate Real Estate are not imposed to the same degree you would expect in the British Isles and Ireland.
So whom do you buy from and where do you start looking?
Talk to the ex-pats and get their advise, believe me they know who’s good and who’s bad, once the summer season comes to an end, Altinkums tourists filter out and we “expats” are left to share stories over the Winter and Spring months. We have heard it all, the Turkish who will bend over back ways to find you your dream home and those who lick their lips greedily in anticipation of the £ and the €. However most people coming over to Turkey to find property don’t have the time to spend researching all the estate agents and through lack of time they tend to rush into buying their properties. Some of these instances result in disastrous consequences - problems with Title Deeds, multiple sales of one property and buying property with huge tax bills.
This is where we come in, allow us to send you in the right direction and put you in good hands and best of all - we don’t charge you for our services!
